Today a member emailed to say the quiz 'finally made property feel like it was speaking to her.' I read it three times. Then I closed the laptop and just sat with it for a minute.
This is why. On the hard days, this is exactly why.
The Story Behind It
Property IQ began as the most common question I was asked: where do I even start?
Instead of answering it one email at a time, I wanted to build something that could answer it with warmth at scale — a calm, reflective quiz that told you about you, not just about property.
So I built it in public. I shared the rough drafts, the awkward first question set, the scoring logic that was, frankly, wrong the first two times. Members told me what felt off. We fixed it together.
Building openly was terrifying and freeing in equal measure. Every flaw was visible — but so was every improvement. The tool got sharper because it was never mine alone.
Looking Back
I waited too long to show the ugly early version. I thought I needed it to be impressive before anyone saw it.
The moment I let people see the mess, the whole thing accelerated. Honesty, it turns out, is a feature.
Reflection
Building in public isn't about performing progress. It's about trading the illusion of control for the reality of momentum.
